Paul S. Speranza Jr., 1971, general counsel of Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., was recently featured in the business section of The National Law Journal. Wegmans is one of the largest private companies in the United States with 73 supermarkets in the mid-Atlantic region employing more than 38,000 workers and generating $5 billion in annual sales. Speranza is the first and only lawyer to be the chairman of the board of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the largest business federation in the world.
Hon. Mary E. Wiss, 1972, participated in a panel on lawyer civility at the USF School of Law. The event was co-hosted by the USF Center for Law and Ethics and the American Board of Trial Advocates.
James Hagarty, 1972, was appointed Yakima, Wash., prosecutor by county commissioners in December. He fills the vacancy created by former Prosecutor Ron Zirkle's midterm retirement.
Hon. Mary E. Wiss, 1972, 2008-09 president of the California Judges Association, was featured in the spring 2009 San Francisco Attorney magazine in an article on judicial compensation.
Thomas Anthony Durkin, 1973, is representing Bobby DeLaughter, a circuit judge in Mississippi. Durkin is described by the American Civil Liberties Union as one of the most prominent and experienced criminal defense lawyers in the country.
Florence C. Lee, 1973, is founder and president of the nonprofit organization No Health Without Mental Health (NHMH). NHMH is dedicated to changing the way health is perceived to include both mental and physical health as equal, essential components of overall health. As a communications, social marketing, and advocacy nonprofit startup, NHMH is recruiting law graduates with a business, financial, or marketing background to join its board of directors. Hon. Joanne Parrilli (Ret.), 1974, was the guest speaker at the National Day of Prayer Observance Breakfast at the Napa Elks Lodge. Parrilli, who served on the California Court of Appeal, First District, now serves as a private arbitrator.

Hon. Joanne Parrilli, 1974, was profiled in the Oct. 30 Daily Journal article "Theologian Manqué." Parrilli retired from the First District Court of Appeal in 2007 and has since worked as a mediator and arbitrator.
Hon. Mary Jane Theis, 1974, of the Illinois Appellate Court was interviewed for the April 2009 Chicago Bar Association's Young Lawyers Journal.

Gary F. Bendinger, 1975, has authored the Impact of Evolving Case Law on Litigation Strategy for Securities Litigation and the Economic Crisis. Bendinger is co-chair of Howrey LLP's Global Litigation Group.
Betsy Kimball, 1975, a partner at Boyd & Kimball, LLP in Sacramento, is serving as chairperson of the Sacramento Child Advocates Board of Directors. Kimball has been on the board since 2002.
William Staples, 1975, has been included in Super Lawyers magazine's roster of top attorneys in Northern California for 2009. He is a veteran defense litigator and head of Archer Norris' litigation group. For the past three decades, his practice emphasis has included product liability, construction defects and disputes, employment and commercial litigation, premises liability, toxic torts, and catastrophic injuries.
Robert Twiss, 1976, was appointed a Sacramento County Superior Court judge by Gov. Schwarzenegger. He has been an assistant U.S. attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice since 1987.
Martin Karlinsky, 1976, will receive an honorary fellowship and become president of the American Friends of the Hebrew University. Karlinsky has been the principal author and counsel of record in eight major U.S. Supreme Court cases. He was a founding managing partner of Camhy Karlinsky & Stein LLP and is an active member on the National Executive Committee of the Anti-Defamation League.
Martin E. Karlinsky, 1976, who specializes in complex civil litigation, has joined Butzel Long as a shareholder in the firm's New York City office. Karlinsky also serves on the board of directors of the American Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and is chair of the Anti-Defamation League's Litigation Oversight Committee.

Charles B. Lewis, 1976, a partner in the Chicago office of Duane Morris, was recognized as a top construction law attorney by the Chambers & Partners USA survey. The citation appeared in the 2009 edition of Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business.
Veronica Colby Devitt, 1977, has joined Knobbe, Martens, Olson & Bear's San Francisco office as a partner. Devitt focuses on trademark counseling, global trademark portfolio management, prosecution, and litigation.
Daniel Conklin, 1977, has joined the recently expanded Kalamazoo office of Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest's oldest and largest law firms. As a senior banking attorney, Conklin manages all types of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, easements, and condemnations. He also has experience with commercial loan transactions.
Edward H. Davis, 1977, as joined the San Francisco office of Bullivant Houser Bailey PC, a West Coast complex litigation law firm, as a shareholder practicing corporate finance, governance, securities, tax, mergers and acquisitions, international transactions, and litigation in emerging technologies.
Hon. Jacki C. Brown, 1977, was highlighted in the San Francisco Daily Journal's Judicial Spotlight column for her work as an Orange County Superior Court judge.
Carolyn Collins, 1978, has joined Nixon Peabody's products litigation practice in San Francisco as a partner.
Peggy Fulton Hora, 1978, earned the California Women Lawyers' Rose Bird Award for her judicial excellence and long-term service and inspiration. Hora is a retired Alameda County Superior Court judge.
Andrew Kluger, 1978, has been appointed a visiting senior research scientist at the University of Maryland's Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering. He will be responsible for expanding the university's relationship with medical device companies.
Hon. Peggy Fulton Hora (Ret.), 1978, received the California Women Lawyers' Rose Bird Memorial Award. The award honors judges for judicial excellence, groundbreaking public service, and inspiration to California's women lawyers.
Ellen Peck, 1979, was published in the December 2008 Practising Law Institute's Litigation and Administrative Practice Course Handbook Series.
Christopher Fagan, 1979, who specialized in estate planning, probate, and corporate law after graduating from the University of San Francisco, entered St. John's Seminary in Camarillo and expects to be ordained in May.
Fr. Christopher Fagan, 1979, was ordained May 30 to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. He celebrated his first Mass as priest on May 31 at Sacred Heart in Lancaster. His initial assignment is with St. Mary's parish in Palmdale.
