Biographical Note

Adjunct Professor Shirley Hochhausen, director of the Predatory Lending Clinic, has been a public interest attorney for more than 25 years. She actively fights predatory home mortgage lending and is managing attorney of the anti-predatory lending practice at Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto. Hochhausen has served as co-counsel in several predatory lending cases, among them the class action Knox v. Ameriquest. She began her career as a legal services attorney in New York City, and served as assistant attorney general for the State of New York, special assistant U.S. Attorney, and counsel to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. She taught at Stanford University from 2000 to 2002. At USF, Hochhausen teaches Predatory Lending Law and Practice.
